56th Guild Conference 25th 27th October 2019

Photos of the 2018 weekend

Guild members and their partners are invited to attend the 56th conference weekend. The booking forms for the conference are now available in the Members Area; and are to be returned to Elaine Robinson; there is no conference fee this year.

This year the conference will be held at the Park Inn hotel in Peterborough; the accommodation and function room in this hotel are all under one roof. There is a lift to all floors and the room that we will be using is on the ground floor opposite reception. There is a car park at the hotel. The cost for the weekend, which includes dinner on Friday and Saturday, and Saturday Lunch, is 170.00pp. If anyone wishes to come for the day on Saturday only, the day attendee fee is 20.

The hotel is reasonably central in Peterborough. The train station is not far (trains from the north east stop at Peterborough); there is a bus station nearby at which National Express coaches stop; and there is a large shopping centre within 10 minutes walk from the hotel for the judges' partners!

The weekend starts on Friday afternoon for the early arrivals with a beer from the Elgood's Brewery available in the Aragon Room only. This is followed in the evening with a home-made wine reception of placed aperitif wines from the 2019 National Show, and a beer (Brut IPA) brewed by Geoff Fryer. The evening meal follows with wines made by some of our members to accompany each course. Please also feel free to bring your own home made wines and beers to finish the evening. (NO COMMERCIAL CORKS OR LABELS).

The first session on Saturday morning is the wine and beer assessment, conducted by Elaine Robinson. Please bring your bottles with you on Friday evening. After coffee, there will be a beer tasting of beers from the Elgood's Brewery, conducted by Richard Baldwin. After lunch, our President - Bernard Lamb - and the committee will present a wine tasting with a theme of Wines for Dinner. Please bring your tasting glasses to each event.

The AGM is on Saturday afternoon at 3.30pm; remember that this is your chance to voice your views. The minutes from last year's AGM and the agenda for this year's AGM are available.

The wine assessment is White Fruit Dry, and the beer assessment is American Pale Ale (2 bottles required).
There is a claret jug and a tankard to be won.

To help you select wine to complement the food, the dinner menus are on the web site in the Members Area.
